What is a PSA Nitrogen Generator?

A PSA Nitrogen Generator is a machine that works on PSA technology to separate nitrogen from the mixture of air. PSA stands for Pressure Swing Adsorption. Basically, this machine uses two towers and Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMC) to separate Nitrogen (N2) and Oxygen (O2) from the air. CMS traps unwanted gases and separates them, and only allows Nitrogen and Oxygen to pass through. When one tower gets saturated, the next tower starts working to make sure that there is no delay in the gas supply. Nitrogen Generator is a compact and skid-mounted system, fixed together on a base. The working method of the PSA Nitrogen Generator

The PSA nitrogen generator is a combination of its components. The nitrogen generator works in two parts:

Air Compression and Conditioning System

  • PLC-based Control System: A logic controller that controls the operation of the entire system, including tower switching and timing. And last, Pressure Regulators and Gauges to monitor and control pressure levels at various stages.
Nitrogen Generators also have a Nitrogen Output System to collect and ensure the quality of pure nitrogen. Nitrogen Buffer or Receiver Tank stores pure nitrogen and provides a consistent and stable supply. An Oxygen Analyzer continuously measures the purity of the nitrogen. A Product Flow Meter measures the flow rate of the produced nitrogen. Output Pressure Regulating Valve to ensure that the output nitrogen pressure is at the correct level for use.

A key requirement is a non-reactive environment. What this means is oxidation and chemical reactions have to be avoided in the presence of oxygen.
